There are a number of masjids around the world with incredible architecture and striking beauty. The beauty of these masjids is captivating inside and out, but it is the mesmerizing detail in the ceilings of these architectural masterpieces that will truly amaze you.

1. al-Masjid an-Nabawi Masjid, Medina (Saudi Arabia)
an-Nabawi Masjid was built by the Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) in Medina. Need I say more? 🙂

al-Aqsa Masjid also known as Bayt al-Maqdis was the first Qiblah for Muslims.

3. Great Masjid of Cordoba (Spain)
The Great Masjid of Cordoba was built in 784 CE by Umayyad prince Abd al-Rahman I. It was, sadly, later converted into a cathedral after Muslims were expelled from Spain.

4. Blue Masjid, Istanbul (Turkey)
Sultan Ahmet Masjid, popularly known as the Blue Masjid, was built from 1609 to 1616, during the rule of Sultan Ahmed I in Istanbul.

Al Sultan Qalawoon Masjid or The Sultan al-Nasr Muhammad ibn Qalawoon Masjid was built by Sultan al-Nasr Muhammad in 1318 in Cairo, Egypt.

6. Wazir Khan Masjid, Lahore (Pakistan)
Wazir Khan Masjid was built in seven years, starting around 1634-1635, by the then-governor of the Punjab province in Mughal times, Hakim Shaikh Alim-ud-din Ansari, popularly known as Wazir Khan.

Taj Mahal Masjid or Jama Masjid Agra was built by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in 1648. It is made up of redstone and stands on the western side of the Taj Mahal.

Sheikh Zayed Masjid is the largest masjid in the United Arab Emirates, named after Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the founder and the first President of the United Arab Emirates. Its construction lasted from 1996 to 2007.

9. Al Fateh Grand Masjid, Manama (Bahrain)
Al Fateh Grand Masjid, named after the conqueror of Bahrain, Ahmed Al Fateh, was built by the late Sheikh Isa ibn Salman Al-Khalifa in 1987.

St Petersburg Masjid was constructed in 1910-1913 under the patronage of Abdoul Ahad, the Emir of Bukhara.
